Welcome to Operation BRAVE!
Operation BRAVE was founded in 2020 through The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Ending The HIV Epidemic in the U.S. Initiative (EHE). The goal is to reduce the number of new HIV infections in the United States by at least 90% by 2030 with the goal of decreasing the number of new HIV infections to fewer than 3,000 per year. Reducing new infections to this level would essentially mean that HIV transmissions would be rare and meets the definition of ending the epidemic.
Operation BRAVE connects people with HIV who are either newly diagnosed, are diagnosed but currently not in care, or individuals who have not reached viral suppression to essential HIV care and treatment and support services. We want you to know there is support available!
Living with HIV is life changing. However, you are not alone, and there is help. People living with HIV live long, happy, normal lives through treatment. Operation BRAVE is here to help connect you to countless resources available in Bexar County.
Treatment for HIV has changed considerably from the 80’s. There are plenty of options for you. HIV is treated with a daily pill. Antiretrovirals, or ART therapy help get the viral load in your body to undetectable levels.
That means that the amount of virus in your body is so low, that it cannot be passed to another person.
From treatment, housing and having someone support you throughout your medical appointments, we want you to know that this journey doesn’t have to be taken alone. We are here to help offer guidance and support through this journey. #BeBRAVE.
Operation BRAVE partners with others in the community to get you the help and care you need. Our partners include Alamo Area Resource Center (AARC), Beat AIDS, San Antonio Aids Foundation (SAAF) and more.
Feel free to reach out at any time so we can connect you to the care you deserve! All of our services are 100 percent confidential and free.
